The National Democratic Institute Libya established already in 2013 a Youth Political Academy (under the lead of Ancuţa Hansen, Anis Elwillani and René Märtin) to engage the next generation of Libya’s political leaders. 2021, based on the concept of the time, supplemented by the experiences that NDI Libya has made with similar concepts in the past years and based on expected parliamentary elections, NDI Libya now with the upcoming Youth Leadership Academy aims to cultivate an informed and skilled group of Libyan youth leaders who are actively and democratically engaged in the youth wings of the existing political parties. This training school would build the capacities of political youth leaders between 18 and 40 years old in leadership, policy development, communication, and political management. Through a rigorous recruitment process, for ensuring a diverse political and geographical representation, 30 participants will be selected to join the school. The participants will meet three times in presence for intensive trainings, the program will also be accompanied online (pre- and post-processing, transfer tasks, coaching). Benefiting from training and ongoing one-on-one assistance, participants will be expected to design and implement political communications and campaigning on political party development. The program will build on similar NDI initiatives from around the world, and will use NDI Arabic-language publications, as well as other material e. g. from the lead trainer, Mr René Märtin.
